About The Competition

Restaurant Managers all over the UK are invited to compete in this prestigious competition to become the UK Restaurant Manager of the Year.

The competition has been run by the Academy of Food & Wine Service for seven years and aims to acknowledge and reward the best in the industry – whether small individual boutique establishments, popular fine-dining sites or those part of a larger food and beverage operation.

Anyone who fulfils the role of a Restaurant Manager is welcome to enter. Your job title doesn’t have to be “Restaurant Manager” but you should be undertaking the typical work and activities associated with the role: responsibility for the business performance and coordinating the entire operation of the restaurant.

How does the competition work?

First Round

The first round questions must be answered on the Entry Form or online by 7th October 2016. The answers will be judged by the panel of judges made-up from representatives of the Academy of Food & Wine Service, sponsors and industry experts.

The best candidates will be selected and invited to compete in the Final in London on the 14th  November 2016.

Second Round
All finalists will be required to write a business development plan, full details of which will be sent to the candidates after they are selected. They will be required to submit their business plans electronically by the  7th November 2016 for judging. All business development plans must include detailed  calculations supporting the plan and be the candidates own work.

 Finalists

During the morning session candidates will be interviewed by industry professionals and tested on their Restaurant Management skills.  The top four candidates will then be asked to present their business development plan in front of a VIP audience. (All candidates should be prepared to present and answer questions on their plan at the final.)

Awards Ceremony

The winner will be announced and presented with their award at the UK Restaurant Manager of the Year  Awards Ceremony on the evening of Monday 14 November 2016, in front of a highly influential and inspirational audience at a drinks and canape awards reception at The Courthouse Hotel, Mayfair, London.

Prize

The Academy of Food & Wine Service, UK Restaurant Manager of the Year 2016 will receive: A trophy, certificate and prestigious career advancing training as well as invitations from The AFWS to Top Industry events.

All finalists will be given the opportunity to be mentored throughout the year post event by  leading industry figures.
